Eclipse in Capricorn

Posted in Capricorn, Libra, Luna, Mercury, Pluto, Retrograde Station, Saturn on 01/15/2010 by nemain nyx

The new moon eclipse at 25 degrees in Capricorn is at an exact square with my (and many others my age) Pluto in Libra (mine in the 4th house). Anchored in Astrology asks what this eclipse’s aspects mean to your natal chart. Especially since Mercury doesn’t enter the direct station until after the eclipse…it has an unpredictable effect.

So to me, this eclipse is signifying a Plutonian effect on my home and family house. A hard square, right in my Libra zone, right on top of my Saturn Return.

As you can guess I’m facing some day-to-day difficulty that I’m slightly bitter about. But I’m beginning to see this Saturn Return take shape, and it isn’t all bad (of course…like I’ve been told). However, we learn best through trial and error and there are certainly a lot of errors that were made…and those are coming to light.

These are notions I can handle. The Pluto square eclipse makes me nervous, just as any Pluto idea makes me nervous at the moment. Mercury moving direct this week activates what Robert Wilkinson calls “The Grand Irrationality”, or the current Pluto/Neptune situation. At the moment, it’s quite certainly septile (considered an “irrational” aspect in of itself). However, there are strong conjuncts with both planets to Jupiter and (currently) Mercury. Jupiter is poised to enter Aquarius, to make things quite heady, and Mercury is fogging up the eclipse with it’s void state. So here you have a Grand Irrationality.

Right about when I’m begging for some certainty. Game on, life.

On the natal front, the Sun/Venus conjunct is squaring my natal Jupiter in Libra. Yes, Libra again. However, an interesting and powerful Uranus aspect is forming, Uranus in Pisces is trine my natal Uranus on the Scorpio/Sagittarius cusp. So until later in the year when Uranus stations retrograde, the Uranus effect on the current reformation of my life should proceed with greater ease. Maybe some greater personal innovation is in store. There’s usually a silver lining, yes?

Scorpio Moon, Mars Trine Pluto

Posted in Capricorn, Current Events, Mars, Pluto, Scorpio, Taurus, Virgo on 06/03/2009 by ananda silvermoon

Luna crossed over into Scorpio about an hour and a half ago, moving into opposition with Mars, which is trining Pluto. Mars is the traditional ruler of Scorpio and Pluto the modern ruler; these two planets in aspect will have real consequences for anyone with prominent Scorpio in their charts. Additionally, since it’s happening in Capricorn/Taurus, those with strong Earth will likely also feel it as well. (As a Cap with Taurus rising and Scorpio moon, I think it’s fair to say that I’m feeling a bit stressed out by this stuff, especially when you take into consideration the triple conjunction we’ve talked so much about already. But this post isn’t about me.)

The big aspect of the day is Mars trine Pluto. Trine is considered a “good” or “easy” aspect, but with both Mars – ruler of action, war, conflict, aggression – and Pluto – ruler of sex, death, loss, transformation – involved, it is hard to see how this aspect could not have a darker side. In fact, one of the biggest news stories right now, that of the murder/assassination of abortion provider Dr. George Tiller, can be viewed through the lens of this Mars/Pluto aspect. Sex + death = abortion; Mars can precipitate violence; the fact that the murder occurred in church this past Sunday suggests a cold calculation that only Scorpio could be capable of.

In fact, taking a glance at the birth chart of Scott Roeder – the prime suspect in this heinous crime – (Feb 25, 1958 – time and place unknown), the first thing I notice is a conjunction of Jupiter and Neptune – just like the current conjunction – along with the lunar North Node in the early degrees of Scorpio. I also notice that his natal Pluto is in the first degree of Virgo, forming the third leg of a grand earth trine with the current Pluto/Mars trine. His Mars is placed in Capricorn, suggesting that he firmly believes that his actions (Mars) are doing the right/best thing (Capricorn). Interestingly, Mars is also stressfully sesquisquare Pluto in his birth chart; this aspect will repeat itself soon as well. It will be interesting to see if the exact sesquisquare will coincide with a key event in this case.

Anyway, I know this isn’t a political blog though we do follow mundane astrology, but I just want to take a moment to remember Dr. Tiller as a hero to women and families everywhere, providing women with the choice to save their very-much-wanted children from short, tragic, and painful lives of medical intervention and expensive, invasive, painful experiences. The vast majority – if not all – of the cases that Dr. Tiller saw which ended in abortion were those in which the unborn children in question had severe defects incompatible with life as you or I know it. I don’t want to open this up as a platform for the debate over abortion – there are so many other sites all over the internet for that – so I am closing comments on this post. If you have anything positive to say, feel free to email me at ananda.silvermoon@gmail.com and I will post your comments myself if I so choose. Thanks for your understanding.

Two Sides of the Same Dragon

Posted in Cancer, Capricorn, Node on 05/12/2009 by nemain nyx

This evening I’ve had a chance to do some meditating and studying on the North Node, otherwise known as the Dragon’s Head. In most charts it seems, the primary focus is the North Node and whatever sign that it is in, leaving little information or thought in regards to the South Node (the Dragon’s Tail). The justification being the North Node is the direction you want to head towards and the South Node where you’ve been (or more appropriately – I believe – where you are most comfortable).

The North Node is called the Dragon’s Head from a mythological story about a dragon who chases the Sun and the Moon, and in turn is the cause of a solar or lunar eclipse (more about that here). To accepted significance of the North Node is that it is your karmic life-goal, and the South Node is then your karmic past.

My North Node is in Cancer, so my karmic South Node is then Capricorn. This would mean that my past life had Capricorn influence and therefore to progress forward in this life the goal is to to be more like Cancer. In other words, traits of Cancer would be a new pattern given that the Capricorn traits are more comfortable and familiar to me.

This doesn’t indicate that I should ignore or ostracize the traits of Capricorn at all. There is unfinished business in the place of origin. The idea is that in this life my journey is to embrace the path from Capricorn to Cancer.

They are two sides of the same Dragon after all. It relates to the phases of life and great harmonic balance of light and dark, yin and yang, past and potential….and speaking of potential, I’m absolutely fascinated by this revelation. Cancer? I hardly know ye! Besides being the ruler of my second house I have no other planets residing in that sign. I have a whole new door open to me that I hadn’t considered.

So how can I apply this? I can consider my tendency to focus on the self and instead open myself up more to others and embrace the nurturing aspect of Cancer. This is indeed kind of weird for me. For one, I’m not much of a nurturer in the traditional sense of the word. I only really open myself up to a significant few and I tend to recoil from hugs and smootchies and general body contact, even when I actually am attempting to comfort someone. I tend to try to comfort with words or “look on the bright sides” while secretly not knowing what the hell to do.

I could learn a thing or do from the sign ruled by the Mother Moon herself. Learn to open up and allow myself the vulnerability necessary to really give to others. The fallback is to lean towards the shields of feeling too overly-dignified to let yourself truly release and empathize with someone else. Capricorn has worked hard for status and tends to find it difficult to share. Time to try to reach out to others (well, baby steps ok?) and think about balancing my head and tail.

Venus Square Pluto

i scalded my hand, bit my tongue, lost a favorite coffee mug, and left a hat in a lecture hall. damnit.

venus is square pluto, in case you hadn’t noticed. and, sadly, it’s not going away really for a few more weeks. since she’s in retrograde, she still has to transit back over this point after going direct, and with the direct station only 4 degrees away, she’s really not moving that fast at all. which means this is going to be… well… what it is. a bunch of shit, really.

this square, in the early degrees of capricorn/aries, is lighting up anything in early degrees of cardinal signs, and causing a lot of crap for a fair number of people. the mars-saturn opposition is also like wham, in the 13-16 degrees Pisces/Virgo (and we can’t forget Uranus’ role if we’re talking about opposing Saturn right now – so make it 23 degrees or more of those signs). Lots of mutable action here.

anyway, that’s my thoughts on the skies right now. goodnight.
